Often, I receive queries from PMDs parents about what the "4500 hours" or "4500 hours of experience" requirement means. So, let me explain. In order to qualify or meet the new disability criteria for the PMP, you need to have 4500 hours of experience in leading and directing project work. This requirement works if you have a four-year degree or 16 years of education. However, if you don't meet that criteria, then you need to have 7500 hours of experience, which is equivalent to five years of leading and directing project work. Now, what does leading and directing project work mean for you as a test taker? PMI has provided a document called the PMP Examination Content Outline, where they explain the concept of leading and directing project work. They have identified five domains, each with specific tasks that a typical PMP certified person should be familiar with. These domains are initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Let's start with the initiating domain. This domain is all about ing the necessary work to start a project. This includes helping your sponsor prepare the project Charter, conducting stakeholder identification to determine who is important for the project, assisting stakeholders or business managers in preparing a business case, and conducting cost-benefit analysis for project selection. Additionally, you may also be involved in high-level scoping activities and documenting assumptions at the initial stage of your projects.
