She will also need to provide her work history, proof of identity and citizenship, proof of income and resources, and her residence. Social Security's definition of disability is very specific. According to their criteria, an individual will be considered disabled if they are unable to do any kind of work they are suited for and if their disability is expected to last for at least a year or result in death. During the application process, there will be specific questions about how her illness or condition limits her ability to work.
